How often should my piano be tuned?

New pianos may need three tunings in their first year, then one or two per year depending on stability. Older pianos need at least one per year, sometimes two depending on use and conditions. Unplayed pianos still need care: humidity and temperature affect tuning.

Where should I put my piano?

Keep it away from exterior doors and windows, heating and air vents, fireplaces and direct sunlight. Stable temperature and humidity help preserve tuning and the instrument.

Does my piano need voicing or regulation?

Harsh, bright or uneven tone may benefit from voicing. Uneven or sluggish keys may need action regulation. Sticking keys can have several causes; the technician can assess the problem.

What is concert pitch?

Concert pitch sets the A above middle C to 440 Hz. Some very old or delicate instruments may need a lower relative tuning to avoid excessive tension; the technician can advise.

Do you repair digital keyboards?

Fortson’s Forte specializes in acoustic uprights, grands and spinets. Digital piano, keyboard and electronic repairs are outside the service scope.

Can you travel to my piano?

Yes. The team works across the Southeast, particularly Columbus, LaGrange, Fortson, Phenix City, Opelika and Auburn. Contact the team to discuss travel, access and mileage for your location.
